It can be implemented in any appropriate content management tool *) that is used in the organisation. The framework is agnostic to visualisation languages and notations by default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(166,192,255) 0%,rgb(255,255,255) 44%);font-size:12px\">*) Content management tools used in the organisation can be e.g. Atlassian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlassian.com\/software\/confluence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Confluence<\/a> (combining text, tables, and figures), an EA-tool such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualiware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">QualiWare<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valueblue.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BlueDolphin from ValueBlue<\/a> &#8211; with which it is possible to use different languages that complete each other (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EDGY<\/a>, ArchiMate, BPMN). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:14px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-black-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the Enterprise Framework is to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Serve as the <strong><em>landing page<\/em><\/strong> of all the content that covering the <em>behavior and structure<\/em> of the enterprise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a conceptual <em><strong>content model<\/strong><\/em> for enterprise development <strong>across all involved disciplines<\/strong> (e.g., business owners, designers, architects, and developers).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain all design and development descriptions and models in <strong>a centralised, easily accessible location<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain<strong> an inventory and track<\/strong> all <a href=\"https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/enterprise-elements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enterprise elements<\/a> relevant to understanding the enterprise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This version is a template that can be adapted (<em>adjusted &amp; tuned<\/em>) to fit the specific needs and context of the enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2530\" height=\"1472\" src=\"https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16276\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.718779973144063;width:803px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65.png 2530w, https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65-1024x596.png 1024w, https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65-768x447.png 768w, https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65-1536x894.png 1536w, https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-65-2048x1192.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2530px) 100vw, 2530px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This framework can be used as a &#8216;<em><strong>landing page<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; in a content management tool. For example, in the Confluence, this framework can represent the main page, the cover page into all the content in all the sub-pages in the organisation. The elements in the &#8216;house&#8217; can be links to sub-pages with specific content such as text, tables and figures. The figures can be made with an appropriate tool such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drawio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Draw.io<\/a>. The &#8216;House&#8217; elements support a drill-down effect: selecting an element opens a dedicated sub-page or figure for more granular detail. Each sub-page can act as a directory for related content, such as system landscapes or interaction diagrams. Alternatively, the link can open a specific diagram, such as a <em>stakeholder map<\/em>. However, the core idea is that each element on the &#8216;landing page&#8217; acts as a link to a specific sub-page. These sub-pages can contain text, tables, and figures, or provide further links to deeper sub-pages related to the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this form, the &#8216;House&#8217; model serves as the <em>Enterprise Architecture framework<\/em>, which can be implemented using an appropriate modeling tool or the enterprise&#8217;s existing content management system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e5fafa;font-size:12px\"><em><strong>Yet Another Framework (YAF)<\/strong><\/em>, yes, but a simplistic and minimal one that can be used for various purposes, modified and applied to fit for purpose &#8211; whatever is appropriate in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Enterprise Framework is <em>lightweight<\/em>: it is easy to understand and use, simple enough to start with, modular, and quick to adopt and iterate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why Enterprise Framework? For:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flexibility: Works for any domain or scale.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarity: Focuses on what matters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaboration: Simple enough for everyone to use &#8211; for multipurpose and multidisciplinary use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background\" style=\"background-color:#80ffb7\"><strong>Enterprise Framework<\/strong> is lightweight, flexible and collaborative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-black-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Principles<\/strong>: designed to be <em>simple<\/em>, <em>modular<\/em>, <em>adaptable<\/em> and <em>purpose-driven<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Simple: Contains only what\u2019s necessary, what is typical and common for enterprises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modular: Components (elements) of the framework can be added, removed, or replaced &#8211; as needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adaptable: Fit for purpose, use those components and elements that are relevant in the context.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purpose-driven: Always ask &#8220;why&#8221; before &#8220;how&#8221; or &#8220;what&#8221; when adding things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best practices<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visual notation: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use what is common to most of the people involved in the enterprise development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a simple<strong>, <\/strong>shared notation to communicate with all the disciplines and stakeholders.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>E.g. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boxes for entities (organisations, applications, data elements etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrowed lines for relationships or flows (e.g., value, information, dependencies).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Straight lines for associations between elements (such as entities)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>with connection lines (straight lines or arrowed lines)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anti-patterns<\/strong> (what not to do):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overcomplicate: If it feels heavy, you\u2019re doing it wrong. This model organises the enterprise into logical layers, typically moving from the &#8220;Why&#8221; (Strategy) down to the &#8220;How&#8221; (Technology).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roof (&#8216;Management&#8217;)<strong>:<\/strong> \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strategy, Vision, and Identity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Middle Floors (&#8216;Operations&#8217;, the &#8216;foundation&#8217;): \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Customer Experience View: journeys, channels, offerings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operations and Architectural View: Processes, data, applications, technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organisation and Business Actor View: organisation structures, roles, stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bottom layer (&#8216;Development&#8217;). \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The bottom layer focuses on the change and innovation of the operations. It describes how the enterprise evolves and builds new capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content: Development programs, projects, architecture principles, and the &#8220;Systems of Innovation&#8221; or new technology pilots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purpose: To ensure the continuous improvement and future-proofing of the enterprise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Drill-Down Effect. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The framework is designed for layered navigation. A user can start at the high-level House view and &#8220;drill down&#8221; by clicking on specific elements. This leads to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Detailed sub-pages: Containing text, tables, and specific descriptions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visual diagrams: Such as stakeholder maps, system interaction diagrams, or process models.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tool-Agnostic Implementation<strong>. <\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The framework is not tied to a specific software platform. Instead, it allows for the use of the most appropriate notation for each purpose. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It supports a multi-layered approach where different modeling languages complement each other based on the level of abstraction. High-level strategic designs and conceptual models are often best represented with EDGY, whereas detailed process flows and system architectures can be further refined using specialised notations like BPMN, ArchiMate, or UML.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ideally, the framework enables the interoperability of different languages: for instance, high-level concepts and sketches can be created using EDGY, while more technical or granular details can be documented using BPMN, ArchiMate, or UML as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modern versions of the framework can incorporate the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EDGY language<\/a>, which balances three critical facets:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identity<strong>:<\/strong> What the enterprise is (Purpose, Mission, Vision, Goals, Brand).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience<strong>:<\/strong> How the enterprise is perceived (Customer\/Employee journey).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Architecture<strong>:<\/strong> How the enterprise is operating (Processes, data, applications, technologies).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, the Enterprise Framework is a <em>living repository.<\/em> It prevents organisational silos by keeping all design and development descriptions in one findable location, ensuring that any change &#8211; whether a new regulation, a service, or an application update &#8211; is understood within the context of the whole enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#80ffb7\"><strong>The Enterprise Framework<\/strong> serves as the foundation for an <em><a href=\"https:\/\/hosiaisluoma.fi\/design\/enterprise-digital-twin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enterprise Digital Twin<\/a>,<\/em> providing a virtual representation of the enterprise&#8217;s behavior and structure.
