Applying Enterprise Design with EDGY

There are many disciplines, practices, and capabilities involved in the change and operational activities of an enterprise. Each discipline has its own purpose and specific focus area. Enterprise Design and EDGY can be applied across all disciplines to facilitate holistic, human-centric collaboration.

Enterprise Design with EDGY Cookbook

EDGY provides an easy yet expressive language that everyone can use. EDGY offers a simple but powerful language that is accessible to all stakeholder groups within an enterprise. Visualisations with EDGY are simple and attractive, and everyone can interpret them intuitively and quickly. An interesting aspect is the Enterprise Design Facet Model, which can be used as an analysis tool to shift perspectives and reframe challenges into new ideas - from different angles. -- Eero Hosiaisluoma

Customer Perspective and Organisation Perspective

The customer meets the organisation at the service interface. The customer has needs, tasks to do (jobs to be done), which are served by the offerings of the organisation. That's where the customer and organisation perspectives meet. And that is valuable for both the customer and the organisation.

Value Demand and Failure Demand

Value demand is "normal, healthy basic demand" that arises from customer needs, to which the organisation responds by offering appropriate services and/or products. Failure demand is unnecessary additional demand that arises when customer needs have not been met, and the customer has to return to the service. Failure demand is a significant cause of inefficiency and cost escalation in organisations.

Milky Way Map with EDGY

A Milky Way Map is a visualisation of the geography of an enterprise’s business. It shows the big picture in a single view by combining the customer’s and the organisation’s business perspectives.

Enterprise Design

Enterprise Design covers all that is meaningful for understanding the enterprise as a whole. It is a holistic approach to designing better enterprises through three facets: identity, experience and architecture, and their intersections: organisation, brand and product.

Enterprise Design Perspectives

Enterprise Design approach is based on the Facet Model, which consists of three facets and their intersections. These facets exist in all the enterprises. They are characteristics, qualities, that enterprises have by their nature, no matter of the size, no matter if they are intentionally designed or not. The facets represent the perspectives, the viewpoints, from which an enterprise can be observed.

EDGY examples

EDGY is an open-source language for enterprise design. The EDGY is created for visualizing enterprises, and designed to connect people from different disciplines and become collaborative co-creators of better enterprises.
